Overcoming Self Focus, by Dave Coles

In September 2024, Lausanne Global Analysis published David Williams’ article, Disciple-Making Movements: Applying a Faithful Balance. While it highlighted several concerns about maintaining theological integrity, parts of the critique seemed misplaced regarding the multiplicative and contextual nature of DMMs.

Last week, Dave Coles offered a thoughtful counterpoint in his response, Reimagining Missions: Overcoming Self Focus, published by the WEA Mission Commission. Coles encourages us to move beyond a monocultural evaluation, reminding us of the Holy Spirit’s work in places where traditional models have often struggled. Coles’ response contributes to our ongoing discussion about how best to participate in and understand movements today.
